Many websites lack simple internet and search engine marketing techniques and consequently miss out on literally thousands of potential free hits a day.

Most search engines are there for one very simple reason ... well ... OK ... two very simple reasons.

1. To help their customers find you.
2. To make money.

The secondary gain for them is that they can make lots of money, either through advertising or through sponsored advertising.

Their success in this area depends upon their success as a search engine. This usually takes the form of pay-per-click adverts you are probably already familiar with. The general idea is that the more you pay the higher you rank in the sponsored sections of the search results for certain keywords or combinations of keywords.
